May I recommend Waitrose today? They are demonstrating a white chocolate fountain and a dark choc fountain, with marshmallows and fruit.
Also a rather nice roasted seed mix, if you are feeling more virtuous.

Do you speak Trader?
Our dept has started doing a weekly roundup of events in the market, which I'm sure is tremendously helpful for everyone else. I am an editor, and have no idea what they are talking about when they discuss the tremenously significant tightening of spreads, nor what they mean when they discuss how surprising it is that xyz was trading at plus 10 on Friday. What is a spread?
Can anyone with sufficient knowledge to google this subject properly please point me at a site that is 'trader jargon for dummies', or explain it in a couple of paragraphs?
I can get lists of terms, but not how they fit together. If I am not to fall asleep every Monday morning in front of the entire dept, I need to gain some idea, in commonly used words, what actually happens to money when it hits a structured finance bond, and how traders actually make anything out of these things. Ideally, I'd like to know why bloke giving the talk appears so enthusiatic about tight spreads on some days, but bemoans them on other days. I hope that this information will make the roundup make some sort of sense.
(sorry, I know many of you are on the techie or support side and don't actually need to know this stuff)

Short notice, but is anyone interested in picnicking tomorrow?
It will be enormously hot, so we (well, I) will be in shade somewhere in the Jubilee Gardens.

Anyone fancy another get-together?
Well, maybe another couple. One meal/drinks, which someone else could organise.
I just had an idea I thought I'd run up the flagpole, and see if anyone saluted ... anyone fancy a spot of bowling? As in 10 pin? We had a team meet there (there being the place at Canada Water) a few weeks back, and it were a right laff. I'd suggest Tues 21st or 28th, or whenever, as Tuesdays tend to be good nights for me. If there is any interest that is. If not, I'll just go bowling on my own :o/ Current Mood: relaxed

I don't know about anyone else, but while the weather is nice, I'm finding a nice sunny spot, and having my lunch outside. So would anyone care to join me for an impromptu picnic on Friday?
Yesterday I tried Cabot Square, which is very sunny, but rather crowded and thus not great for a meeting point unless we go early. I'm going to check Jubilee Gardens today, in case it is easier to take over an area there (at 12.30, should people who know me be free). If anyone can suggest a better sunny spot with slightly fewer crowds, go for it.
Otherwise, I plan to be having lunch in the sun tomorrow, probably in Cabot Square, at 12. I'll be there for an hour.
Hope to see you there.
ETA: Jubilee Gardens was much nicer, and we can meet on the grassy knoll, as a bonus. Still at 12, though, I think.
The gardens are right next to the main entrance of the Tube station, more or less above the food court.
There is a hillock to the right of the green area as you come out of the shopping centre, or at the back left of the garden if you enter from the Tube side.
I have a small picnic mat which will make me easy to spot, and I stick my stuff in a blue shoebag. I draw the line at carrying a copy of the Times and wearing a carnation for identification purposes.

From 18:00, suggested venue is Ledger Building
(aka West India Quay Wetherspoons) unless someone has a more cunning plan. Not making it myself but people have been poking me offline to exercise my alleged powers as benevolent dictator
